We don’t know about you, but it certainly seems like it’s getting warmer out there. With sun and heat comes more outdoor play - and rightly so! However, we are big advocates of being safe in the sun at Eeny Meeny, especially with little ones who are likely to burn! For this, we have a lot of love for the sun-focused brand, Hello Hossy. Hello Hossy are all about keeping little ones cool, hydrated and protected as the weather warms up. In this post, we’ll be sharing our favourite picks from their fantastic range, alongside our top tips for enjoying the outdoors in warmer months.
Choose the best times to be outdoors
Before any level of sun protection is factored in, an easy way to stay cool and avoid burning is choosing the right time of day to get outdoors. In the UK from March to October, the NHS recommend children avoid being out in the sun for long periods of time between 11am and 3pm. This is a good rule to go by!
Cover up and slather up!
Firstly, it’s all about covering up, and slathering up. A factor 50 sun screen is ideal for keeping little ones protected from burning, and we love this Solar Buddies applicator to make the process as quick and mess-free as possible! This one is also great for reapplying quickly if children have been outside a while, or have perhaps gone in and out of a paddling pool.
While a good factor 50+ sunscreen is great for little ones, if you are frolicking in paddling pools or playing in water trays it can be easy for sun cream to wear off. With this in mind, we love Hello Hossy’s collection of sunhats and caps to add extra protection, alongside longer sleeves. With a lovely range of caps for younger toddlers through to children 6+ (and even parents with their matching caps), there’s plenty to choose from.
Stay hydrated
Outside of the risks of burning, spending lots of time in heat can lead to dehydration. We find this is particularly common for little ones who are having great fun in the outdoors and forget to keep on top of their water bottle! Lots of reminders can help with this, as well as access to fun and playful water bottles. If you struggle to get your little ones to drink up, homemade ice lollies are also a great option to add some hydration in while keeping things fun!
Choose water-based play
Alongside safety precautions to keep little ones from burning and dehydrating, water-based play is another great way to keep things cool. You might like to invest in a paddling pool or water tray, or simply playing with pots and pans to make water ‘potions’! All these are great ways to keep little ones cool and avoid overheating, though of course make sure to keep in the shade where possible and keep on top of sunscreen.
Enjoy!
Warm weather doesn’t last long here in the UK, so let’s enjoy it while it lasts while keeping ourselves safe. Warm wishes to all our lovely customers!
